Fueled by the events occurring after the Vietnam War, the Weathermen aimed at overthrowing what they deemed as the imperialist power structure within American society and promoting the ideas of Communism. However, the strategy used by the organization was so over-the-place and lacking consistency that its actions were mostly incoherent. With a general aim as broad as dismantling American imperialism, WUO’s strategic goal was rather nebulous as well. Namely, the organization was going to create a party that could represent its ideas on the nationwide level. The described accomplishment was expected to help in changing the power structure within American society to introduce the ideas of Communism to it.

Unsurprisingly, WUO ultimately failed in its mission to dismantle the social hierarchy within the U.S. On the organizational scale, the small size of the organization could be considered the main reason for the failure to have occurred. Indeed, the members of WUO were rather few, which prevented them from becoming the force that could make a massive radical change within American society. Moreover, by using acts of terror as their primary tool for attaining goals, they effectively isolated themselves from their potential allies. Apart from the organization being disjointed and using terrorism as the main method of achieving its goals, the failure to implement its plan could be attributed to the ultimate lack of vital capacity in the ideas of Communism. Overall, the lack of coordination combined with insufficient numbers and the absence of a strong ideology that could survive the test of time made the organization slowly dissipate.
