Peter Drucker once said, “We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change. And the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn.” Following his wisdom, I believe mutual learning is an integral part of a meaningful education experience, and that was my philosophy when I founded the Personal Finance Club in 2007. The goal of the club was to help new graduate colleagues learn about personal finance topics such as mutual funds and mortgages by means of group discussion and topic presentations. Through this experience, I have learned to recognize the potential of an objective-driven club whose impacts on its members can extend beyond merely being a form of leisure gathering and shape to be a source of idea exchange.
I aspire to enrich the LBS community with the same degree of dedication and organization I demonstrated in the steering of the Personal Finance Club. With my post-MBA goal of being a product development manager in mind, I am particularly interested in joining the Entrepreneurship, International Development, and Technology clubs. Drawing from my work experience in a Taiwanese technology startup, Macroblock, and the Canadian graphic card company, AMD, I look forward to sharing with LBS classmates my insight into the influence of Canadian and Taiwanese technology companies at the global level. I also plan to seek participation and sponsorship from these companies and organize site visits and symposiums to further enhance students’ global perspectives of business operations.
Moreover, I believe in “work hard and play hard”. I enjoyed reading culinary literature and had taken cooking and wine appreciation courses in a culinary school. I would like to establish a new “Culinary Art” club by incorporating components of food preparation and appreciation to enrich the diversity of the LBS students’ social experiences.
