Learning Outcomes
The workshop will be titled “Global education in modern society”. The primary goal of this program is to draw attention to this approach and explain why it is so necessary and efficient. The most significant aspect that should not be overlooked is that the audience will get a better understanding of current approaches and their advantages. Such information can be vital most of the time because each member that is participating in the process will be capable of identifying possible issues and how they may be resolved in the future.
Rationale
The workshop is going to be aimed at educators, community members and leaders because such individuals are actively participating in the process of education most of the time, and they are incredibly interested in such approaches as global education. Also, it is imperative to understand that it is necessary to focus on positive outcomes and discuss how this approach would be beneficial in the future because it is an aspect that is valued by community members most of the time.
However, the most attention is going to be devoted to the role of educators because it is their responsibility to provide students with highest possible education and they must have access to all the necessary information to stay competent. Moreover, it is necessary to mention that global education is an interdisciplinary approach, and it needs to be applied to all the areas to maximize its effectiveness.
Global Education Model
The proposed model is going to focus on such aspects as the quality and efficiency of education. The level of involvement of community members is also going to be significant, and their ideas and suggestions will be reviewed. One of the benefits of this approach is that it is going to be incredibly flexible, and it will be possible to make particular changes to the curriculum if it is necessary. It is expected that this approach would help to increase the growth in math quite significantly.
The focus on science is also going to be vital and will lead to outstanding results. Discussions of global issues also will be critical, and it is expected that it will increase the level of understanding of such problems and students become much more interested in such topics. Also, it is understandable that efficiency is of utmost importance, and the overall goal of this education model is to make sure that students are provided only with the information that is necessary. Moreover, individuals will be presented with many opportunities to be creative and will actively participate in the process because it will help to make sure that they are not distracted and pay attention. The role of such tools as the Internet should not be overlooked, and modern technologies will be utilized t increase the level of interest.
Models and Examples
Global Education Model of Schooling (GEMS) is the first approach that needs to be discussed. The company was able to establish valuable relationships with numerous global organizations. Moreover, this is a factor that should not be disregarded because it has access to enormous amounts of resources and individuals can participate in such activities as exchange programs. Also, it is necessary to understand that this model has proven to be incredibly efficient, and it was met with positive reaction from both educators and students (Ball, 2013). The approach that is suggested by the American Forum for Global Education (AFGE) can also be viewed as incredibly useful.
The materials that have been developed are unique, and some of the works that were written a long time ago are still relevant and must be studied. Recommendations for curriculum development deserve the most attention, and should be reviewed because the organization is incredibly experienced in this area (Kirkwood-Tucker, 2009). Another model that is worthy of a discussion is Global Education Framework that has been developed by P21. The fact that it consists of six elements is vital because the organization wants to make sure that educators focus on aspects that are the most important and are in need of improvement.
The establishment of global competency standards is an essential step that had to be taken, and all necessary measures should be taken to ensure that every individual that participates in the process is capable of meeting such demands. Suggested changes to language instruction may also be incredibly valuable, and immersion plan should be viewed as an efficient approach.
The biggest issue that current education system has to deal with is that some of the institutions are underperforming, and it is entirely possible that such changes would help to address this problem. Networking is also essential, and educators should understand that it is their responsibility to develop methods and techniques that would enhance the process of education. An ability to learn from the experience of other countries is also essential in most cases, and such approaches as a virtual exchange may be considered (Framework for state action in global education, n.d.).
John Stanford International School also may be mentioned, and it is noted that the participation of parents and flexible curriculum are core factors that help to increase the level of performance (Teaching students how to make a global impact, 2013). The role of learning materials also should be noted, and a resource that is supported by Education Services Australia can be viewed as an outstanding example because it provides educators with numerous tips and recommendations, and apps that are suggested are especially interesting (Global Education, n.d.).
Toronto District Board School also may be viewed as one of the examples of global education, and the fact that it has developed a detailed plan of actions is critical because it is much easier to keep track of goals. The activities that are suggested are incredibly efficient, and possible preferences of individuals are taken into account (Internationalization and Global Education, 2012). Overall, it is necessary to understand that numerous global education models have been developed in the past, and many of them are focused on students that are older. However, the fact that it would be the most efficient if it was integrated into K-12 curriculum should not be overlooked.
