There are certain characteristics of Islam that are important for humanity and religion in general, and therefore, are appealing to me. Firstly, I see the principle of collaboration and assistance as one of the most significant characteristics of Islam, as I think that religion has the power of unification. Secondly, I like that Islam is important for both an individual and society. I think that religion should serve as the means of individual purification and the establishment of overall equality, both being the features of Islam. I can see the third and fourth characteristics in everyday life: Islam contributed to different fields of science and is transferred to society by several means. Fifthly, Islam emphasises the spiritual importance of religion, which I often experience myself. Finally, I like the Islamic idea that religion serves to liberate a human, which appears as a feature of hope and optimism. Now, I would like to discuss some of the characteristics in detail.
What I often notice is that Islamic Civilisation is reflected in many spheres of life. For example, the Lunar calendar is the product of Islamic astronomy, defining the most important events and periods in a Muslim’s life. Then, mathematics and medicine, for example, the works by Al Razi and Al Khawarizmi, are the source of scientific discoveries. The Muslim geographical studies contributed to the invention of navigation, while in the field of humanities, Islamic scholars translated significant Greek and Roman works.
Another interesting characteristic is that this religion can be conveyed to people through several mediums, such as society, education, or sacred places. I myself learned the basic principles of Islam through education and media. Moreover, I appreciate how much religion is valued in a family. As Muslim parents teach their children religious beliefs, they observe themselves. I think that Islam can contribute to tighter bonds within families.
Finally, the idea that Islam brings liberation to a human is an important feature of this religion. Belief gives people a sense of security from harm and fear. It teaches that the life and death of a person belong to Allah, which means that nobody is able to enslave or oppress people. For me, this affirmation connects religion with security, hope, and tranquillity, both internal and in society.
