Green computing is an area in computing that emphasizes information technology that is environmentally sustainable. It is a process in which the disposal of computers, servers, printers, mobile phones, monitors, storage devices, and other associated devices is done in an environmentally friendly manner. This means minimal impact on the environment. Recent trends include material recycling, whereby outdated computers and parts can be recycled or donated to charity organizations. Recycling or donating them is a challenge in that the information therein can be accessed by unauthorized persons. Terminal servers can also be considered here, whereby the users are subjected to accessing only one server using the client computers, therefore, saving energy consumption and hence reduction of the costs involved.

Telemedicine is an area in computing that has enabled the storage of medical information and also information about various diseases in an information system. This has enabled sharing of such information by use of the complex applications developed for these purposes. It has assisted in remote diagnostic of diseases and also transfers of information using both audio and visual multimedia capabilities. It is, therefore, possible today for two medical professionals to discuss a particular topic or assist each other in real-time when they are geographically apart. Complex communication infrastructures are therefore being used to deliver these services. This has made delivering medical care easier and more meaningful.

WIFI trademark is linked to standards of IEEE 802.11 and is designed for wireless local area networks. It uses Ethernet topology in design. These devices are compatible with most electronics such as computers, printers, and smartphones, just to mention but a few. Latest trends in WI-FI include secure networks of computer gateway, provision of services same as those of firewall and also the capability of the intrusion detection system. Voice applications that are implemented wirelessly have also become possible with WI-FI.
