The Black Lives Matter movement was a struggle for social justice and equality for African Americans between the 1950s and 1960s. It altered the social order of that time, providing legal rights for millions of African Americans. This essay claims that the movement made a long-lasting change in American society.
The main achievement of the Civil Rights movement was the banned racial discrimination. This allowed African Americans to increase their social and economic mobility across the country, thus positively influencing their well-being. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited segregation in public places and racial discrimination (History, 2021). This event influenced the lives of African Americans, as from that moment, they had more access to public resources and facilities. For example, African American children could go to public schools. There were increased job positions, available higher education, public transport, and other benefits that legal citizens have.
Moreover, the outcomes of the Black Lives Matter movement provided easier access to resources for women, religious groups, and other minorities. As a result, people’s life started to change in the way they wanted them to be. Furthermore, due to various acts, such as the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Fair Housing Act of 1968, African Americans were able to shape politics and improve their housing. This changed the political and social order of the United States.
Overall, the Black civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s resulted in changes in legal order related to African Americans. Due to the movement, African Americans had easier access to public goods and services. In addition, they increased their political and social influence by being legal citizens with equal rights to the rest of the population of the country.
