Application software is a computer program that is used to assist users to do their repetitive jobs easily and with accuracy. Examples of this software include the Office Suite that has modules like Microsoft Word which assists users to type text documents, Microsoft Excel which assists the users to store customers’ information, mathematics functions, PowerPoint and Access which assist in presentation and database management respectively (Peruzzi, 1998). It is always good to understand the business processes of an organization to get the best kind of application software to use.
Application software is meant to assist or support business processes i.e. the functionality of any application software must align with the functions of the business. Before selecting the type of software to use in a business, the stakeholders must understand the daily operations of the business and also research on the same from the users on what they want or what they would like the software to do for them (Peruzzi, 1998).
These are called system requirement specifications and they are then implemented as functions of the software. Any mistakes done at this stage will make the software to be less important to the end-user. Application software assists the employees in applying their knowledge and skills to their daily operations. Therefore, computer software is just a tool for assisting inaccuracy, repetitive and cumbersome jobs. The other contribution of the software is in business culture, whereby application software changes the way things are done in an organization (Peruzzi, 1998). For instance, security issues are being solved by using such computer systems.
Contribution to organization culture cannot be understated, since it affects responsibility, allocation, policies of an organization, and who reports to whom. To determine the best software, it is always good to consider each of the mentioned contributions and find out the extent to which software do to contribute on the profitability of an organization. Users should be involved in these processes to find out the forgotten areas.
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a type of computer program which consists of modules of every department in a particular organization and all these modules make use of one database. The most important thing about enterprise resource planning is the ability of employees or users to share data. This means that every person should be able to work from his/her module and these modules should link to each other (Tuchman, 1978).
This is one of the many ways of standardization. Standardization is important because, if there is no standardization, these modules cannot be linked to each other. There is also a requirement that enterprise resource planning should be web-based so that one can be able to communicate with partners within the extranet. ERP presents established and dependable purposes supported by result-oriented practices. Today almost everybody uses the ERP system since it covers all the procedures of the company (Tuchman, 1978). One of the purposes of the ERP is to advance international consistency at the same time planning the forms of modularity.
Standardization is necessary as it regulates most of the activities that are carried out in many organizations. The system has allowed people globally to establish a global system and maintain their globalization plan. The most fundamental reason for standardization is to utilize the available resources, and in this case, there has always been a greater need to employ professionals in every field so that good results can be attained without much struggle for any company to progress.
In every company, the most important resource is the employees and thus there is a need to have the best-skilled team on the ground for better standardization (Tuchman, 1978). Globally, many companies are exercising professionalism at all levels. This means that every person is allowed to perform the kind of work that he/she knows best and in this case what you are trained at. This means that one is in the field that he/she is competent in, instead of having bad results due to workers who do not understand a certain field and are forced to work in it (Tuchman, 1978).
Standardization of work in every company makes it possible and easy for various departments within that company to be connected and this leads to regulated labor practices. Companies that have ERP programs have a better flow of information and it is accessible at all times regardless of where you are located within that company as all the information is confined in one place. Linking data to the internet makes it quite easier for everyone to communicate and avails it to many people.
Sharing of information is the best thing that has ever happened to people all over the world: this is because one can share work with a colleague from whichever part of the world he/she is comfortable and easy. This has been brought about by the fact that communication has been regulated. ERP systems have targeted changes in the way many management processes are carried out in quite a several companies. This study helps the programmer to classify various management rules with a standard for different areas and this leads to regulation of the processes that are carried out in the whole industry (Tuchman, 1978).
For a long time, there has been a monopoly of the type of work being done in the same way but this system has changed everything in the sense that, these are now done quite differently. In most companies, data is located in one location and thus it is accessed easily, shared by everybody and also the issue of accuracy comes in.
When we talk of global economies, we refer to the amount of wealth worldwide. However, it has been quite difficult to calculate or measure wealth as it is normally determined by various aspects (Malone, 1998). Development is a key factor, therefore when a certain company is doing well in the market this leads to expansion of wealth. If there is a wide range of unemployment, the economy deteriorates. Countries should take into account the need for higher industrial production if the global economy is to increase (Malone, 1998). Social amenities such as communication and transport should be improved at a high rate and this should amazingly raise the economy.
Nowadays, information can be shared immediately and the cost involved is very low. Furthermore, this information is relayed without any hindrances and delays from other people. Infrastructure is an area where major efforts should be put, as this widely increases the economical growth of a country. In places where airports, roads, and railways are at stake then development and growth become impossible (Malone, 1998). In a place where there is a proper and sufficient network, the flow of information is easy and clients can keep accessing the desired information, whether during the day or night and this increases the value of work done.
It is best noted that the worth of this economy is widely distributed to everyone in the network and not a few people. For a global economy to succeed some issues like the treatment of women affect the amount of output in a certain country, everybody has a right to respect, but not some people feel more inferior or left out (Malone, 1998). Religion also contributes much to how employees perform, as there are some places in the world where beliefs are not considered whereas there should be a right and freedom of worship.
