The health status of any community is affected by a mix of environmental, community, interpersonal, and individual issues. Public health nurses should consider these areas when providing care to patients as it will enable the healthcare professional to evaluate this person’s needs and expectations. Liberty City in Miami (Florida) is characterized by the prevalence of low-income neighborhoods and the lack of recreational zones. This environmental peculiarity contributes to the low level of physical activity and wellness among the population. At the same time, the area has no considerable polluters such as plants or factories, which has a positive effect on people’s health. The unemployment rate is quite low (approximately 7%), but the average household income is only slightly over $20,000, which is associated with a high crime rate in the area. These two community factors show people’s low access to high-quality healthcare and education.

As for interpersonal issues, almost half of the residents report that they never married, which is associated with a significant number of single parents, who tend to have financial constraints. The population is ethnically homogeneous, so race-based tensions are not common. Individual issues may include such issues as addictions (especially tobacco use) and some psychological issues due to financial problems. The community issues have the most impact as the lack of resources and opportunities prevents people from having healthy lifestyles and accessing quality healthcare. The least influential area is interpersonal, as the neighborhood can be characterized by a friendly atmosphere.
