Art is highly valued in African tribes. Of course, their understanding of art is rather different from ours but, still, it is no less important. Conversation, oral tradition, and literature are the most crucial types of art in Igbo tribes that make a social and political influence. Taking the role of African parables, they may never be overrated as they are part of Igbo’s destination, the part of their life. Discussing the sociopolitical role of literature, it may be pointed that Achebe contributed greatly to the sphere and showed the world the real problems that exist in African society. Without true-telling literature, it is impossible to judge what was happening in the country. The sociopolitical role of literature is that it gives people information that they desire. Sometimes this information is disputable, but a great amount of it gives people an opportunity to decide for themselves what point of view to support.
Reading Achebe’s Things fall apart and Heart of Darkness it is understood that people have to make their own opinion on the situation that happens in Ibo’s tribes. The value of Achebe’s book is that he presents the story from inside and helps many people to see the real state of things. Still, if to take different parables and native stories of Ibo, it is impossible to understand it wrong. The meaning is that you either get it, if you know the history of the tribes, or not. The parables and native stories help people understand the history of the nation that, in its turn, will help to understand the modern state of affairs and accept it without judgment and reproach. In fact, literature forms a social opinion and the attitude of different people to the situation.
