Cultural diversity has always been a source of conflict and possible division of individuals along ethnic lines. On the basis of this assertion, there are individuals who will never acknowledge or appreciate other people’s culture. Cultural diversity should be embraced by societies and, by extension, the people in it. No matter how different one’s culture may be, there is no valid reason why an individual should be prejudiced against another individual purely on the basis of their ethnic background. Symbolically, cultural diversity can be used as an avenue for acquiring more information about other societies.

In relation to the issue of cultural diversity, I vividly recall a day when a friend insulted me because of my ethnic background. Actually, I had never been a victim of cultural stereotypes prior to that uneventful day when this ugly incident occurred. All along, we had always been the best of friends, and the issue of our different cultures had never come up. It all started when my friend invited me over to her house for her brother’s birthday party. I gladly accepted the invitation because previously, I had also invited her over to my house on several occasions to mark momentous occasions, and she had always turned up. Besides, her mother is a profound cook, and I was eager to sample some of her cooking.

At the party, everything was going alright until my friend decided to insult me in front of everybody. Although I did not understand my friend’s language, I could not help but notice her weird behavior towards me. She isolated herself from me as she went to sit with her family. At first, I felt humiliated, but then I managed to brush off the thought. The issue became serious when I spotted her talking and laughing sarcastically. I was not amused because I saw her glance at me several times. Without hesitating, I approached her and asked her politely why she was behaving strangely.

Surprisingly, she yelled at me and insulted me over what she claimed to be our backward culture. To be honest, I did not know what to do because I was in a foreign place far away from my home. That was really absurd.
