Windows security was initiated in the early years of computer usage, especially for personal computers, which did not place much thought on network connections. This means that they had no specific security features built in the beginning. However, when internet communication was gaining root in the early 1990s, Windows NT was designed to improve the internet security system for both personal computers and multi-user computers. However, still, the design was not fully equipped to deal with increased internet usage prevalence in the later years. Other than design complications, the errors that emerged with the process of programming also complicated its security reliability.
However, one area that has proved so challenging to the windows security system is its domineering status in the market. According to the company security team report of 2005, the domineering aspect of windows means that it’s highly and frequently targeted by newly manufactured warms and viruses. This report indicated that in a span of six months, well over 1,000 newly manufactured warms and viruses targeting windows were manufactured. Although windows 9x series gave an alternative for multi-user profiling, the users did not have any privilege to acquire the express usage, hence making little sense as to its multi-user claim. Again, they only carried out a partial implementation of the memory protection, hence receiving hordes of criticism for their insufficient security arrangement.
The common alternatives available in the market are Linux and Mac Mini. These alternatives offer better and more reliable security arrangements since they are less targeted by warm and virus manufacturers. In other words, all viruses and warms are basically manufactured to target windows, giving Linux and Mac Mini an opportunity safe haven for expansion. But despite the entire security problem associated with Microsoft windows, it is evident that it is still a powerful operating system due to the numerous versions it has produced into the market. This phenomenon has made many users have difficulties in switching to other perceived secure OS.
